Compared to previous Jawbone models, the Icon is smaller and more comfortable. Six different finishes range from stealth to bling, letting you choose just how noticeable you want your headset. Smartly, the status light has been moved to the interior of the headset, so no more flashing signals by your ear. Seven different earbuds are included, as well as an optional ear loop — we had good luck without it.

Audio quality is extremely good. Most notably, the Icon normalizes the audio through the headset, so loud incoming sounds are attenuated, while lower signals are boosted. In practice, it meant we could set the volume once on our phone, and then leave it alone, a welcome change from having to constantly fuss with the levels. Other smart changes from previous models include a switch to micro-USB for charging, and a physical on-off switch.
